In this video, we’re diving into the world of steaming by putting T’s new steaming basket to the test. My dad started the experiment by pouring a liter of water into a pot and running it at 110°C for three minutes to bring it to a boil. We used barandi fish from Costco, which came in a pack of two totaling about 640 grams.

Preparing the Ingredients

For our fish preparation, the first step was to thoroughly wash the fish. We then chopped around three stalks of spring onions and a piece of ginger. You can chop the ginger more finely if you prefer, but since I dislike its strong flavor, we opted for larger pieces. We used around four Chinese sausage links in total. These ingredients were then carefully plated to make a bed for the fish.

Flavoring the Fish

To prepare the sauce for the fish, we mixed 2 tablespoons of Chinese wine, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and a tablespoon of sugar. We made two batches of this mixture and drizzled it evenly over the fish. Once the water was boiling, we set up the steaming basket on top. With space for two trays, we could steam both fish at once. We put the lid on top and steamed the fish for 14 minutes at 110°C. The steam was visible but didn’t escape through the sides of the steamer.

Steaming and Final Touches

As the fish was nearing completion, we heated peanut oil (you can use any low-flavored oil) in a pan until it reached the smoking point. Once the fish was done steaming, we carefully removed it and placed it on a plate. Both fish were perfectly steamed. We then added the remaining ginger and spring onion on top of the fish. My dad carefully poured the boiling oil over the fish, adding a final touch of flavor.

The Final Dish

The fish was now ready to be enjoyed. As you can see in the video, it wasn’t undercooked, and the steamer did an excellent job. The fish came out flavorful and paired well with the Chinese sausage. We typically serve this dish with white rice. It was a great meal that required minimal preparation, and we’ll definitely make it again for dinner.

Conclusion

I highly recommend giving this method a try at least once to see if you like it. Using the steaming basket was straightforward, and it produced a delicious and well-cooked meal. So go ahead, give Tokit’s new steaming basket a chance and treat yourself to a delightful steamed fish meal.
